Committee to Protect Rights of Rauf Arifoglu to send delegation to Strasbourg

The Committee to Protect Rights of Rauf Arifoglu met in session yesterday, August 26. Ganimat Zaidov, the committee member who opened the session, reminded that the editor-in-chief of the opposition newspaper Yeni Musavat had been imprisoned for 10 months already, in spite of the pressure and protests on the part of international organizations. Musavat party leader Isa Gambar holds that the authorities use the trial against opposition leaders, including Arifoglu, to keep society in awe.

Chair of the Association to Protect Women's Rights Novella Dzhafaroglu proposed strengthening ties with international structures. She believes that for this purpose a delegation must be formed of party members, journalists, lawyers, and human rights activists and sent to Strasbourg before September 10. A working group was created as a result to prepare documents needed for the delegation's visit to Strasbourg.
