Candidates for Abkhazian presidency nominated
Chairman of the Central Election Commission Sergey Smir announced the Commission stopped to accept document on August 23. Now the Commission is studying documents submitted by initiative groups and political organizations concerning the nomination of candidates. Altogether there are seven of them: Aleksandr Ankvab, Valery Arshba, Sergey Bagapsh, Anri Dzhergenia, Yakub Lakova, Raul Khadzhimba, and Sergey Samba.
According to Mr Smir, virtually all initiative groups and social and political movements and parties break norms of conducting election campaigns. Under the law, a candidate's election campaign starts only after his/her registration. Mr Smir expressed regret that the existing election legislation does not fix the responsibility for violations of this kind.
