Advocate of Talekh Bagirzade claims being not allowed to visit his client

At the Baku SIZO (pre-trial prison) No. 1, where Talekh Bagirzade, the leader of the movement "Muslim Unity", is being kept in custody, his advocate Elchin Sadygov was demanded to present a written permission from the Prosecutor's Office for a meeting with his client. The advocate has treated the request as a violation of the law.

"I was said that I was to present a letter from the Prosecutor's Office, allowing my meetings with Talekh Bagirzade. This is an absolutely illegal demand and a gross violation of the Talekh Bagirzade's right to protection," Elchin Sadygov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Earlier, according to the advocate, investigators had already introduced him to Talekh Bagirzade as a defender, after that he repeatedly visited his client.

"The law contains no requirement for an advocate to submit a letter from Prosecutor's Office in order to visit a client at SIZO. Therefore, I believe it is unlawful that the SIZO administration demands from me to submit such a letter and refuses to allow me to visit my client because of the lack of such paper," Elchin Sadygov has said.

The advocate has announced his intention to file a complaint to the administration of the Penitentiary Service.
