New head of Open Society - Georgia Foundation appointed

New head of the Open Society - Georgia Foundation (OSGF) has been appointed. The candidacy of David Darchiashvili, a Georgian political scientist, has been chosen for this post, a spokesman for the OSGF reported.

Until very recently the post of head of the foundation was held by Aleksandr Lomaya, who is Minister of Education now. When Mr Lomaya was appointed minister, the competition for the post of OSGF head was announced. About 50 candidates participated in it.

The OSGF was founded in Georgia in 1994. It has given grants for different projects since 1996. Approximately $20 million have been distributed as grants in Georgia by this organization.
