IS claims responsibility for explosion in Dagestan

The explosion at the GIBDD (traffic police) checkpoint in the Derbent District was committed by a suicide bomber from the IS unit in Northern Caucasus, says the statement of the "Islamic State" (IS), recognized as a terrorist organization.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today a car was blasted in the morning at the checkpoint near the village of Djemikent. Power bodies suggest that it was triggered by a suicide bomber, whose remains were found at the site. The information about two killed and 18 wounded persons has been officially confirmed. Other sources report about four casualties, including the suicide bomber.

The suicide bomber, who has committed the explosion at the GIBDD checkpoint in the Derbent District, was pre-identified as a certain Talibov, a native of Dagestan and a student of an Astrakhan higher school. According to power agents, he was a supporter of the IS  ideology.

Today, a statement was posted on the pages of the Twitter, run by IS supporters, in which the IS takes responsibility for organizing the explosion.

The IS statement was also reposted by the resource named the "SITE Intelligence Group", a non-profit organization (NPO), registered in the United States and tracing the activities of terrorist groupings on the Internet.

According to the IS statement, the explosion at the GIBDD checkpoint was triggered by a suicide bomber of the "Islamic State" (IS, earlier the ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant), recognized in Russia as a terrorist organization and banned, – comment of the "Caucasian Knot").

On December 30, 2015, the IS claimed responsibility for shelling in Derbent. In early September 2015, the IS reported about a successful attack in the Magaramkent District of Dagestan. However, law enforcement sources and local residents failed to confirm the information about the attack in the Magaramkent District.
