OSCE Mission in Georgia brings up question of freedom of media and movement in South Osetia

"The OSCE Mission in Georgia is ready to bring up the question of journalists' freedom of movement and freedom of the mass media in the Tskhinvali district of South Osetia," Head of the OSCE Mission in Georgia Ambassador Roy Reeve said at a briefing on June 23.

He emphasized that "Georgian journalists have turned to the OSCE Mission many times after the South Osetian authorities started hampering the coverage of the situation in the conflict zone." "We'll bring this question up during the next meeting of the Combined Control Commission on the Resolution of the Georgian-Osetian Conflict. Besides, I'm going to inform the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media of this problem during my visit to Vienna," Mr Reeve said.

The OSCE Mission in Georgian is mandated to secure freedom of movement and freedom of the mass media.
