Chechen intellectuals express stern protest against court decision in 'case of Ulman'

Board members of the Union of Journalists and Union of Writers of the Chechen Republic expressed a stern protest against "the inexplicable decision by the North Caucasian District Court Martial vindicating the actions by accused Eduard Ulman." Chairman of the Union of Chechen Writers Ruslan Yusupov stated it on May 5, during a round table on the interaction between the media and security agencies. He read out a statement signed by members of the Union of Journalists and Union of Writers the day before. "The entire world should have been terrified by the deeds done, but it has remained deaf; the Russian society did more than show indifference, it, in the person of the jury, acquitted the criminals," reads the statement.

Four special operation soldiers were discharged by the jury on April 29. The statement also reads the members of the Union of Journalists claim with all due responsibility that "the Russian justice takes a one-sided and extremely biased position towards the Chechen citizens."

The journalists and writes in the name of all creative intellectuals of Chechnya strongly urged the political leadership of the Russian Federation "to take appropriate measures to radically change the situation."
