Youth advice centre in Volgograd excluded from registry of "foreign agents"

The Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has not reimbursed the Volgograd youth advice and training centre with the fine earlier collected for its work without getting registered as a foreign agent, but excluded the centre from the registry, said Temur Kobaliya, the founder of the centre.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the centre was recognized as a foreign agent after the check conducted in December 2014. On June 10 this year, Volgograd hosted pickets in support of the centre.

The law "On Foreign Agents", adopted by the State Duma of the Russian Federation on July 13, 2012, demands from the non-profit organizations (NPOs) funded from abroad and engaged in political activities, to accept the status of a "foreign agent".

The decision to exclude the centre from the registry was made by the MoJ today, Temur Kobaliya told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

A possibility to get out of the registry appeared after the Russian president signed a law, according to which, if within a year an organization receives no foreign funding and is not engaged in political activities, the MoJ should, after a check, exclude it from the registry of foreign agents.

Despite the exclusion from the registry, the MoJ did not cancel the judgement of Volgograd courts, who had fined the centre by 300,000 roubles, Kobaliya has noted.
