CaT's lawyers send complaint about Edigov's torture to ECtHR

The lawyers of the public organization "Committee against Torture" (CaT) have submitted a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in the interests of Suleiman Edigov, a native of Chechnya, sentenced to 14.5 years in prison, despite the information that he was tortured.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Suleiman Edigov was charged with an assault on a law enforcer and illegal arms trafficking. According to his advocate Said-Akhmed Yusupov, in the course of the trial it was proved that Edigov had been tortured, but the court failed to make the necessary procedural decisions.

The complaint was sent to the ECtHR on April 13, says the statement published on the website of the CaT.

According to Anton Ryzhov, a lawyer for the CaT, after consideration of the complaint, the ECtHR may treat the whole Edigov's trial as unfair. "The ECtHR is very tight in relation to legality of evidence obtained under torture. Its judges may consider the whole Suleiman's trial as unfair," the above website quotes Anton Ryzhov as saying.
