Sochi woman suffers in collapse of ceiling of dilapidated house

Anna Tkachova, a resident of Sochi, said that she received traumas, when the ceiling of her flat collapsed. The flat is in the house in Vorovsky Street, which has been recognized as unfit for residence. The court had obliged the city Mayoralty to provide Tkachova and her minor daughter with a comfortable housing, but the Mayoralty has filed an appeal.

No. 32 in Vorovsky Street was built in 1932, and in 2005 was recognized as unfit for habitation and subject to demolition. The Mayoralty delivered the house to an investor under contract, but the liabilities to resettle the residents were not fulfilled, Anna Tkachova, the tenant of flat No. 5, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on March 6.

"Every day in our house is a threat to life. But this is our only home; we have nowhere to go. I have a young child, my mother and my brother..." she said.

On March 5, according to her story, a ceiling beam dropped on her head in the bathroom. The traumatology unit of City Hospital No. 4, where Tkachova was delivered by an ambulance, diagnosed her head injury.

The house, where Tkachova lives, has more than 10 apartments, in which more than 30 people live.

"The city has plenty of empty newly-built houses; but the administration... under various pretexts refuses to provide housing to those in need," she said.
