Another field commander gives himself up to authorities in Chechnya
A subordinate to President of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria Aslan Maskhadov gave himself up to Chechen law enforcement agencies on May 21.
Sulim Eldarov was one of the commanders subordinated directly to Aslan Maskhadov. About 50 rebels were under him. A source at the Chechen interior ministry told it to the Caucasian Knot correspondent.
"Field commander Sulim Eldarov gave himself up to republican law enforcement agencies yesterday. He handed over a Kalashnikov automatic rifle and was set free after giving a written undertaking not to leave a place," the police officer said.
However, according to some reports, Sulim Eldarov, who was in command of the rebel unit acting in the Nozhay-Yurt district of Chechnya, was discharged from this position for low combat activity as early as 2003, and he has not taken part in military operations against federal forces since that time in fact.
