In Makhachkala, debates about Muslim attitude towards New Year do not affect festive preparations

In Dagestan, despite the ongoing public debate about Muslims celebrating New Year, Makhachkala is decorated in the same style as in previous years. The city is decorated with 17 New Year trees, and more than two million roubles were allocated for festivities.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Patimat Radjabova, the head of the Information Policy Department and the Press Service of the city administration of Makhachkala, that the decoration of the city involved the Advertising Department of the Makhachkala city administration.

Makhachkala residents see nothing unusual in the decoration of the city prior to the festivities.

Festive events are held in schools, kindergartens, theatres, and other public institutions. For example, the administration of the Soviet District of Makhachkala did its best to congratulate all the socially vulnerable children.

"The cinema 'Russia' held an action 'New Year gift for every child' initiated for orphaned children under guardianship and children from socially vulnerable families. We organized a theatrical performance for children," said Svetlana Maliotaki, the head of the Education Department of the administration of the Soviet District of Makhachkala.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported that followers of the various branches of Islam in Dagestan offer believers not to celebrate the New Year holiday.
