Armenian opposition: authorities do not fulfill requirements of PACE

Armenian law-enforcement agencies do not fulfill requirements of the PACE resolution and continue to illegally persecute opposition activists. Approximately 40 supporters of the Justice bloc and the National Unity party were subjected to administrative arrest and fined from 2 to 6 May. Besides, almost every road leading to Yerevan was blocked off on 4 May, the day of an opposition meeting, and difficulties were made for the work of the press.

To remind, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) passed the resolution on 28 April calling upon the county's authorities to stop political persecution of opposition activists and mass violations of human rights. Otherwise Armenia's membership in the Parliamentary Assembly may be suspended in September.
