Russians arrested in Qatar recognize man who tortured them

A scandal has burst at the hearing in the case on the murder of Zelimkhan Yandarbiyev, a Chechen separatist leader. The hearing is taking place in the capital of Qatar, Doha. On April 26, the Russians who are charged with the murder recognized a man who had tortured them during the preliminary investigation in a witness for the prosecution. The man proved to be Colonel Daui, who headed the investigative group, reported the Izvestiya newspaper on April 27.

The Russian citizens asked permission to speak and stated that the colonel had hit them on the head and had taken part in setting specially trained dogs at them. But the judge interrupted them and said this statement should be made the next day, when the colonel finished testifying.

Zelimkhan Yandarbiyev's car was blown up in mid February in the capital of Qatar.
