Shevardnadze's son-in-law released from custody for $15.5 million

Gia Dzhokhtaberidze, ex-president of Georgia Eduard Shevarnadze's son-in-law, has been released from custody today. The decision to release him was made after Mr Dzhokhtaberidze's wife, Manana Shevardnadze, had transferred $15.5 million to Georgia's state budget, announced Georgian Prosecutor General Irakly Okruashvili. The case against Dzhokhtaberidze will be closed, he said.

The head of the Georgian mobile company Magticom, Gia Dzhokhtaberidze, was detained in Tbilisi on February 20. He was charged with the tax evasion estimated at of $700 thousand.
