In Sochi, Mardiros Demerchyan is suspected of false denunciation

The Investigating Committee of Sochi has opened a criminal case against the builder Mardiros Demerchyan on suspicion of false denunciation.

Let us remind you that Mardiros Demerchyan was detained by police on June 12. His wife Lyudmila Demerchyan said that her husband and another builder Sergey Krbaschyan had been beaten by policemen. Mardiros Demerchyan himself said in his interview to "Caucasian Knot" that he had been tortured by the police.

The investigating authorities received conclusions of independent forensic experts who established the absence of signs of violence, about which Demerchyan had claimed.

"By the results of the examination, investigators had reason to suspect Demerchyan of knowingly false denunciation; therefore, a criminal case was opened against him," the website of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

"We'll not leave it as it is! We'll write new requests; if necessary, speak on this issue at the State Duma; and, perhaps, raise the issue on investigators' service adequacy, who fail to establish the policemen's involvement in torture," Dmitry Gudkov, a State Duma Deputy, wrote on July 26 in his blog on the "Livejournal".
