About 100 persons come to commemorate victims of political repressions in Volgograd

In Volgograd, about 100 persons laid flowers to the monument to victims of political repressions. Members of the Volgograd Association of Victims of Unlawful Political Repressions, relatives, students of the Volgograd State Technical University, and officials of the regional government came to pay tribute to the memory of the repressed persons.

"My uncle Konstantin Lukich Perfiliev died in Kuibyshev prison in 1943. His wife and son were killed by a German bomb during the Battle of Stalingrad. My father was also jailed; however, he was released. He participated in the Battle of Stalingrad. It was a horrible time," stated Klavdiya Perfilieva, a regional ethnographer.

Lyudmila Solamatina spoke of her father Nikolai Barsukov, an engineer of the Stalingrad Tractor Plant, who was repressed and executed in 1937. "The state sent him to study in the USA. And the state arrested him for alleged espionage and destroyed him in Siberia. He took part in manufacturing of first tractors in 1931. He was the head of the production assembly workshop," Lyudmila Solamatina said.

"We should remember what happened in our past not to repeat mistakes. Thus, our students are here, at the rally," stated Evgeniya Anufrieva, Assistant Professor of the chair of history, cultural studies and sociology of the Volgograd State Technical University.

The rally lasted 16 minutes. The participants of the action exchanged with their addresses. Some of the participants of the rally went to the "Volgograd" Restaurant to take part in a traditional funeral dinner, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"I am offended by the organizers," said 91-year-old Leonid Abramov. And he explained: "I spent 10 years in the camps for unfair charges. They promised to give me a pass to the memorial dinner and failed to give it."
