Yerevan Mayor: collapsed house was built illegally

The construction of the building in Khandjyan Street in the centre of Yerevan, the second floor of which fell down and hit the workers, was held illegally, without the permission of the City Mayoralty and City Urban Construction Inspection. This was reported today by Taron Margaryan, Mayor of Yerevan.

On October 25, the workers suffered in the collapse of the unfinished building in the centre of Yerevan. Three victims have been already discharged from hospital, and the condition of Volodya Matevosyan, one more worker, remains heavy.

In their turn, the civil initiatives "We are Owners of City", "Our City", and "Trchkan" issued the statement that criminal proceedings should be initiated against Ervand Zakaryan, Gagik Beglaryan, Karen Karapetyan, ex-Mayors, and Taron Margaryan, current Mayor, on the case of the collapse of the building under construction.

In their statement, the activists have emphasized that the illegal construction in No. 20 in Khandjyan Street had repeatedly been reported to the Mayoralty. They demanded that the city authorities should "immediately stop the illegal construction of the building and dismantle it."
