Karachay-Cherkessia receives 24 repatriates from Syria
As reported to the "Caucasian Knot" by Mukhamed Cherkesov, the chairman of the movement "Adyge Khase – Circassian Parliament" of Karachay-Cherkessia, as of today, the capital of Karachay-Cherkessia has received a total of 24 Syrian Circassians.
"To date, 24 Circassians from Syria have come to Cherkessk – in total, 6 families. The process began more than a month ago. The families arrive separately. Some of them stay in hotels; some were accommodated in flats with the help of entrepreneurs. A special government commission was set up to support the immigrants," said Mr Cherkesov and added a special fund will be created to support repatriates, where people would be able to donate.
Mukhamed Cherkesov has explained that the arrived Circassians want to stay in the country. "Now, we examine the places, where they could live. So far, we've received people who have something. But in Syria there are people who have nothing – they make the majority. Their houses and property were burnt down; and they have nowhere to live," the chairman of the movement "Adyge Khase – Circassian Parliament" has added.
He has also noted that this year's quota for Syrian immigrants returning to Karachay-Cherkessia is 150 people. This year's quotas for those who come from Syria to Kabardino-Balkaria and Adygea have been exhausted.
