Azerbaijani journalist Khadija Ismajlova receives award "For Courage in Journalism"

In New York, Khadija Ismajlova, an observer of the Azerbaijani Service of Radio Liberty was awarded the prize of the International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF) "For Courage in Journalism" for the year 2012.

The IWMF has awarded Ms Ismajlova for her investigations into corruption and abuse of power among the elite of Azerbaijan.

On October 27, the edition named "Contact.az" wrote with reference to the person from the IWMF who announced the winners that Khadija Ismajlova, who had covered the facts of abuse of office and corruption, was shadowed; a hidden camera was installed in her apartment; and shed was threatened, trying to make her silent.

"This award is a high appreciation of my work. When receiving it I said that I take it not personally, but on behalf of all the journalists involved in research journalism in Azerbaijan, who touch on tough topics, risking their life and health," the Radio Liberty quotes her as saying.
