36 repatriates returned to Abkhazia from Syria in October

36 persons who arrived in Abkhazia from Syria in October were accommodated in “Aitar” hotel of Sukhumi for the period of adaptation, 16 children including babies among them.

Repatriates from Syria continue coming to Abkhazia, their number reached 96 persons within half a year. They are provided with dwellings and get aid in adaptation, Chairman of State Committee for repatriation Zurab Adleiba told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

The children are adopted to schools and kindergartens, young people study at preparatory departments of institutions of higher education, 70 per cent of the repatriates are employed. 16 families received comfortable flats not far from Sukhumi.

As for getting the citizenship of Abkhazia, Adleiba explained that persons belonging to Abkhazian (Abaza) and Ubykh ethnic groups receive citizenship automatically. If any members of the family are of other ethnic origin then in case of registration domiciliary they have a simplified order of getting citizenship.

“There are no problems in this respect. Many of those who got dwellings and registration have already received Abkhazian passports”, Adleiba said.

Mohammad Gechba with his mother, wife and five children came to Abkhazia from Syria in May of 2012. After a four-months adaptation his family moved to a comfortable flat.

In spite of the fact that the big family is already safe they do not stop thinking of what is happening in Syria. “We watch the news on the TV every day because many of our relatives and friends remained in Syria”, Mohammad says.

Omar Gechba, Mohammad Gechba’s younger brother, also came to Abkhazia this May and has already settled down to married life. Oksana Adzhba, employee of State Committee for repatriation, became his elect. The had wedding quite recently.
