A defendant on the case of blasting “Nevsky express” beaten up because of religious printed matter, his brother reported

Idris Kartoev, one of the defendants on the case of blasting “Nevsky express”, was beaten up during examination in the investigative isolation ward of Tver. The reason for the conflict was religious printed matter, his brother Vakha Kartoev told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

On October, 19, when the defendants were brought to Moscow from Tver during examination in the investigative isolation ward (IIW) Idris Kartoev was beaten up and placed in a lockup, Vakha Kartoev informed.

“During examination of personal belongings one of the workmen of IIW threw a religious journal belonging to Idris on the floor. Idris rebuked him and a quarrel started. As a result, he was beaten up and placed in a lockup”, Vakha said.

Karatoev’s attorney Yury Ivanov visited his client in the IIW on October, 23. “I saw no signs of beating on his body but he told me that he had bruises on his back”, the lawyer said to the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent. – I submitted a request for medical examination to Public Prosecutor’s office. I will have a meeting with the management of the IIW in the nearest future to clarify the situation. We will respond to violent actions of the IIW personnel”.

Lawyer Musa Pliev protecting the interests of other defendants on the case declared that it was not the first incident in the investigative isolation ward of Tver. “They often complain of conflicts connected with storage and the use of religious printed matted and attributes in Tver. Thing are different in Moscow, there were no complaints from the persons under investigation there”, Musa Pliev said.

The “Caucasian Knot” correspondent failed to receive any comment in the special department of IIW of Tver.
