Derbent residents dissatisfied with reconstruction

Residents of Derbent, affected by the torrential rains, report a shortage of assistance and slow progress in reconstruction works.

The city continues works to clear the streets of river mud, sand, and rocks, to dispose of garbage, and to develop urban reconstruction. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent at the administration of Derbent.

Meanwhile, the local residents report unsolved problems with sewerage system, cleaning up the streets, and problems with obtaining humanitarian aid. According to the local residents, the authorities conceal the real situation in the upper part of the city, most affected by the disaster.

According to S. Magomedova, a resident of Derbent, effluents from sewerage system flowed directly into the ground floor of her house.

"There is mud and stench in the house. And how can I do repair in such a situation? I spent the amount of 20,000 roubles, allocated to my family, to rent an apartment to ensure that children could sleep in a clean room and not in the house, which turned into a barn. This money is enough to live during the initial period and not to repair the house. The authorities conceal the real situation," the local resident told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

M. Gasanova, a resident of Derbent, has reported that the sewage system in her parents' house also does not work. "However, that is not all. There is a cemetery not far from their house, and it was washed away by runoff of the torrential rains. In the morning, people found human remains on the street," the woman stated.

According to the victim, she is hurt to hear that the city administration continues to insist that reconstruction works are underway.
