Syrian Armenians who come to Nagorno-Karabakh prefer Kashatag District

Armenian families, who come from Syria, prefer to settle in the Kashatag Districts out of all seven districts of Nagorno-Karabakh. The Kashatag Districts has already become home for 19 families of Syrian Armenians. One family from Syria lives in Stepanakert. The authorities promise to render assistance to all of them, if they formalize their status of repatriates.

In Stepanakert, only one family from Syria home reside. This was reported by the Ministry of Social Welfare of Nagorno-Karabakh.

"Till present, only five families from Syria, who moved to the city of Kovsakan of the Kashatag District several years ago, obtained the status of repatriates. The rest of the families will obtain the status, if they confirm that they are going to permanently live in the republic, and, of course, they will receive all of the benefits, to which they will have the rights housing for property, reimbursement of travel costs, and different loans from the state," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Elina Mkhitaryan, the head of the division for immigrant and refugee affairs of the Ministry of Social Welfare.

The administration f the Kashatag District has reported that three families arrived there recently, and in several days, they expect arrival of one more group of Armenians from Syria.

"Today, in the town of Berdzor, the district centre, 2 families of immigrants from Syria live, in the town of Kovsakan 16 families, and in the village of Akhanus – one family," stated Ruben Matevosyan, the head of the division for immigrant and refugee affairs of the district administration.

According to him, Syrian Armenians prefer the Kashatag District, since the district has more favourable climate, fertile land, and the inhabitants, who are also immigrants, understand them well.
