One of organizers of believers' action near Ministry of Education arrested in Baku
In Azerbaijan, Djavid Mamedgusein Mamedov, one of the organizers of the believers' protest action against the prohibition of hijabs in secondary schools, held in front of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Education, was arrested. The police seized from him weapons, ammunition, large amounts of money in different currencies, and prohibited religious literature. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Azerbaijan.
On October 5, in the capital of Azerbaijan, about 200 believers held the protest action against prohibition of hijabs in schools. According to the Baku Prosecutor's Office and the Baku Police, the participants of the protest action rendered resistance to law enforcement officers. As a result, 20 police officers got injuries of varying severity.
"Mamedov was one of the main organizers of the action," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told today at the press service of the Azerbaijani MIA.
Officials from the MIA's press service have noted that Mamedov was detained on October 19 during the operation, conducted by staff members of the Nasimi District Police Department of the city of Baku. According to the representative of the press service, Mamedov "was brought to investigators". The MIA's press service refused to provide more detailed comments.
