Derbent authorities claim having restored water supply

In the city of Derbent, affected by torrential rains, water supply has been restored. This was reported by local authorities. However, the water is still not potable. According to local residents, there is a shortage of drinking water in the city.

In the afternoon of October 21, the water was supplied to residents of the upper part of the city, serviced by the pump station "Kyrkhlyar", destroyed by landslide. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by a representative of the Municipal Unitary Enterprise (MUE) "Derbentgorvodokanal".

"The water cannot be used for drinking or cooking, since it is supplied with a high content of chlorine for disinfection," the source has explained. He has added that the water can be used only for non-cooking purposes.

Till present, the residents of the affected areas are supplied by the water in the tanks, like earlier.

"Of course, we are happy that we are supplied with at least some water we can do a full cleaning; however, we cannot use the water for drinking or even for bathing. And it is unclear, when the problems with drinking water will be solved," a woman says.
