"The Volgograd City Administration issued a permit for a demonstration of 200 persons," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Natalia Potapova, the student of the Psychology Department of the Volgograd State University (VolGU), the event's organizer.

The demonstration was mainly attended by students of higher educational institutions. They were marching with posters reading: "Nature of Black Earth Belt is wealth of entire Russia", "Volgograd supports Khopyor River", "Volgograd opposes nickel mining in Black Earth Belt", and "We do not need second Norilsk". Besides, the protesters were chanting: "Hands off Khopyor River" and "We do not need Norilsk in Black Earth Belt".

According Natalia Potapova, the organizers of the protest action also collected signatures to protect the environment of the Volgograd Region. "We want to draw people's attention to the problem, since most city residents are either not aware of it or are rather indifferent towards it. We have the right to live in ecologically clean places, and we are being deprived of that right," Natalia Potapova said. She has noted that in the nearest future, Volgograd is to hold more protest actions against nickel mining.

The today's demonstration was accompanied by 10 police officers. The event took place without any incidents.
