About 1000 miners go on strike in Georgia
As reported by the trade union of the workers of the metallurgical, mining and chemical industries of Georgia, today, about 1000 miners from the company named "Georgian Manganese" went on strike in Western Georgia, in the city of Chiatura.
The miners demanded from the bosses of the company to increase wages and improve their working conditions.
The production activities in most of the company are halted, the "Interfax" reports.
The administration of the "Georgian Manganese" refused to fulfil the miners' demands.
"The workers demanded a wage increase of 10 percent, but they were told that such a decision can be made only by the Director General. By this time, the number of strikers has reached 1000. They wouldn't come to work until their demands are met," the Agency "Business-Georgia" quotes Grigol Bregvadze, the deputy chairman of the above trade union, as saying.
