Volgograd: over 300 persons attend rally against increased housing and utility rates and nickel mining
On October 13, more than 300 residents of Volgograd attended the rally against rising of housing and utility rates and poor condition of city roads. They also demanded to solve ecological problems and problems with measures against the African Swine Fever (ASF).
Participants of the rally were holding posters reading: "No extortionate utility rates", "Volgograd opposes nickel mining in Black Earth", "Volgograd supports Khopyor River", "Let's revive alluvial valley together!", "Kill pig inside you to revive tribe". The order at the event was provided by several policemen and members of people's guard.
Most of the speeches were focused on the problems of rising of the utility rates. People showed their bills and expressed their indignation at rise of the rates.
The second most important topic, discussed by the participants of the rally, was the poor condition of the city roads.
The rally paid much attention to the development of nickel mining in the Voronezh Region. According to activists of the ecological groups of Volgograd, the development of nickel mining will cause "irreparable harm to the environment." In particular, "Khopyor, the cleanest river of Russia," is under the threat of chemical pollution.
Besides, the participants of the rally spoke against measures to combat the African Swine Fever (ASF). They called quarantine measures "a mockery of local peasantry and workers of the markets."
