Sochi hosts solo picket against cutting down trees

Today, at 10:00-11:00 a.m., in Sochi, Evgeny Zakharov, a member of the public movement for the protection of green areas of the city, held a picket in the square near the city administration. The activist demanded to stop cutting down trees in the park area, located in front of the building of Mayoralty.

According to the activist, this morning, constructors uprooted multi-year palm trees and destroyed magnolia plants. During his picket, Evgeny Zakharov held the poster reading "Invaders! Get out!"

"Since September, I observe, how unidentified guest workers mounted the construction fence in the territory of the park area of the shopping gallery in front of the Mayoralty. When I asked them what they were doing, they said they executed the order the owner. They failed to answer who the owner was," the picketer said.

In his turn, Anatoly Pakhomov, City Mayor, has reported, that at the location of the construction fence, an "architectural wave" of glass and concrete will be built. "Sochi should be brought to a common architectural shape," the City Mayor said.

According to the activist Evgeny Zakharov, after his picket, city residents plan to meet at the Department of the Geographical Society. At the meeting, they plan to prepare a complaint to the Prosecutor's Office against destruction of park area of the shopping gallery in front of the building of the Sochi Mayoralty.
