In Rostov, man, suspected of kidnapping 8-year-old Dasha Popova, hanged himself in SIZO

In the Rostov SIZO (pre-trial prison), entrepreneur Alexander Maksimov, who was suspected in kidnapping of 8-year-old girl, has committed suicide. He hanged himself in his ward. This was reported by the press centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

This morning, Alexander Maksimov was found hanged in a ward of the Rostov SIZO. At present, the circumstances of the incident are under verification, and personnel of the SIZO are being questioned in connection with the incident, the "RBC" reports.

The man, suspected of kidnapping of the girl, was placed into a separate ward at the IVS (temporary detention facility), since law enforcement agents feared that other IVS inmates could lynch him. On September 30, Grigory Dubentsov, the lawyer of Alexander Maksimov, stated that his client was placed into the separate ward, since he was a former police officer.

On the same day, Irina Muzhetskaya, the representative of the Chief Department of the Russian MIA in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, reported that Alexander Maksimov worked in the region as an inspector of the criminal investigation department and he was dismissed on September 1, 1982, for defamation, the "Life News" reports.
