Kabardino-Balkaria and Adygea celebrate Day of Circassian Costume

The cities of Nalchik and Maikop have held celebrations of the Day of the Circassian Costume.

Kanshoubi Azhakhov, President of the International Circassian Association, believes that a number of holidays includes one more. "Circassian costume is a part of the Circassian culture, a beautiful part. I think that everyone will enjoy this annual holiday," Mr Azhakhov said.

Sultan Khazhirokov, Republic's Minister for Youth Affairs, reported that the activities for the celebration of the Day of the Circassian Costume will be held until October 3 and they will be concluded by a great udzh (mass dance) in Abkhazia Square. "Such a mass udzh took place in the country in 1934. At that time, it involved 3500 persons. Let's see whether we can break the record," Sultan Khazhirokov said.

Felix Nakov, Director of the Regional Museum, believes that a person, who does not know his or her history and culture, has no solid ground under the feet. "At present, we observe a renaissance of the Circassian costume and everything, related to traditional culture." According to him, such meetings of young people with the traditional culture will have positive results.

Designer Madina Khatsukova said that to her, the person, involved in tailoring Circassian national costume, the festival is very joyful. "It will open a good sense in our young people. I wish that as many young people as possible began to study the national costume. It allows writing numerous theses," the designer said.
