In Tbilisi, participants of sacred procession protest against torture

In the evening of September 25, in Tbilisi, a sacred procession was held, which passed through the streets of the city and ended at the Sioni Cathedral. Participants of the sacred procession demanded to investigate facts of torture of convicts in prisons of Georgia and expressed their support to their families.

Archpriest Shalva Kekeliya stated that with their prayers, the participants of the sacred procession have expressed their support to prisoners, who had undergone torture, and their families.

According to the Archpriest, after the publication of scandalous video records, penitentiary institutions were also visited by clergymen. Prisoners told them that they feared of the resumption of torture and humiliating treatment. This was reported by the religious information agency "Blagovest" with reference to the Georgian edition "InterPressNews".

The sacred procession involved representatives of the youth movement "Davitiani", the Georgian patriarchate, teachers of the seminary and the theological academy. The participants of the sacred procession held a prayer service at the Sioni Cathedral, the edition "Sedmitsa.ru" reports.
