Confrontation in Georgia of "Georgian Dream" supporters and members of "United National Movement" Party

In the town of Signagi in the Kakheti Region of Eastern Georgia, a confrontation occurred between activists of the "United National Movement" Party, the ruling party of Georgia, and the "Georgian Dream", the electoral coalition of Georgian billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili.

On Wednesday, at entrance to the town of Signagi, Bidzina Ivanishvili held a meeting with town residents within the pre-election campaign. At that time, the activists of the "United National Movement" Party organized a "corridor of shame" for him, and they were chanting: "Go away, go away!", "Long live Misha!" They pelted his car with stones and bottles.

"The confrontation between supporters of the 'United National Movement' Party and the coalition 'Georgian Dream' was caused by irritation of the supporters of the 'United National Movement' by the fact that they would not be able to win the parliamentary elections," said Bidzina Ivanishvili, the leader of the coalition "Georgian Dream".

Competitors in the upcoming parliamentary elections to be held on October 1 beat each other with flagpoles of banners, and victims were reported. Apart from representatives of the parties, the number of victims includes Natiya Mirianashvili, a journalist of the "Info-9", who has been brought to hospital, the "News-Georgia" reports with reference to the "Maestro" TV Channel.

Members of the "United National Movement" Party tried to enter the territory, adjacent to the police building, where Bidzina Ivanishvili, the leader of the coalition "Georgian Dream", held the meeting with voters. The coalition activists rendered resistance, which was followed by a physical confrontation. By that time, the situation was defused by police officers, deployed at the surrounding territory, the "Georgia-Online" reports with reference to the Kakheti Information Centre.
