Dagestani Supreme Court refuses to change sentence imposed for beating teenager

Today, the Supreme Court of Dagestan upheld the decision of the Shamil District Court, under which defendant Magomed Magomedov was convicted for beating a 14-year-old teenager.

Let us remind you that on July 2, 2012, the Shamil District Court sentenced Magomed Magomedov, the district police inspector, to 3 years of imprisonment; however, on July 17, the defendant filed an appeal to the Supreme Court of Dagestan.

Today, at 01:00 p.m., in Makhachkala, court session on the appeal against the verdict was held at the Supreme Court of Dagestan.

At the trial, the side of the victims was represented by lawyer Aziz Kurbanov. The defendant himself did not come to the court session, the press release of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial".

According to the lawyer Aziz Kurbanov, the verdict comes into force from today.

Till present, no comments of Magomed Magomedov and his representatives are available.
