Over 500 hectares demined during six months in Chechnya
More than 500 hectares of agrarian land was demined in Chechnya by servicemen of the engineer-sapper units of the federal armed forces in the past six months.
As reported by the Military Commandant of the republic, the demining is on simultaneously in five districts of the Chechen Republic – the Grozny, Urus-Martan, Kurchaloy, Shali and Shelkovskoy Districts by the method of continuous cleaning starting from mid-March.
Before 2012, the demining of the territory of Chechnya was undertaken by the "Leader" – a subdivision of the Russian Ministry for Emergencies (MfE). They were able to clean up to 50 hectares of land per year.
As for the military sappers, in the next four years they will manage to demine 1833 hectares of land in Chechnya, which is 12% of the total area subject to treatment. The clearing of the remaining 88% of agricultural land in Chechnya will take several more years and about half a billion roubles.
