Sochi hosts solo pickets against extraction of nickel near Khopyor River

Today in Sochi, activists of the "Ecological Watch for Northern Caucasus" have held solo pickets in support of the demands of the population of the Voronezh and Volgograd Regions to ban the development of nickel deposits in the area of the Khopyor River Hopper, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The action lasted for about an hour. The participants were carrying posters: "Sochi against extraction of nickel in Chernozemie!" (Chernozemie means the Central Black Earth Economic District of Russia).

"We want to attract public attention to destruction of unique natural resources of Russia by businessmen with participation of the Government of the Russian Federation," said Yulia Naberezhnaya, a participant of the action.

"We express our support to protesters against extraction of nickel in Voronezh," Maria Ukhova, another picketer, has added.

The pickets lasted for an hour and ended without incidents.
