In Astrakhan, tenants evacuated because of threat of house collapse return to their flats

The tenants of the house in Astrakhan, who were evacuated by rescuers in the evening on September 21 because a crack in the wall of their house, returned to their flats.

The house was examined, the threat of its collapse was not confirmed, and the residents returned to the flats, reports the press service of the Chief Department of the Russian Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) for the Astrakhan Region.

The MfE officials have confirmed that the building at the indicated address had some cracks in the ceiling.

The tenants told the correspondent that on April 9, 2010, by decision of the Mayor their house was transferred from the category of a "hostel" into the category of a "dwelling house". They said that they are constantly demanding a major overhaul of the house, which should be made in the case of such change of the status.

Administration officials promised to the tenants to report before September 26 about the decision made about the future of their house.
