Over 500 rally in Volgograd against increase of utility tariffs

Today in Volgograd, in Lenin Square, a sanctioned rally was held against increase of utility tariffs. It was organized by the local regional committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) as part of the All-Russian protest action.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Svetlana Bobrova, the press secretary of the CPRF committee, that the organizers had applied 3000 participants of the rally; however, there were about 500-600 persons in Lenin Square.

Apart from the CPRF, the rally was attended by activists of the regional branches of the parties "Yabloko" and "RPR-Parnas" and "Left-Wing Front", of the All-Russian Public Movement "All-Russian Women's Union" - "Hope of Russia".

People were standing with posters: "No to municipal plunder!", "Unfair elections - illegitimate president", "Let's save Volgograd embankment!", "Volgograd against nickel extraction at Khopyor", etc.

The participants of the rally demanded to hold an audit of economic activities of electricity suppliers and managing companies operating in the Volgograd Region, nationalize key enterprises, stop "disastrous housing reforms" and freeze tariffs on public utilities and prices on basic consumer goods.

Besides, they called for resignation of the government of the Russian Federation and formation of the government of people's trust, holding early presidential and Duma elections "due to the loss of trust of the vast majority of citizens of the Russian Federation."
