Chechnya celebrated the Day of Chechen Woman

On September, 16, festivities were held in Chechnya on the occasion of The Day of Chechen Woman established three years ago. The main celebrations passed off in Grozny. Some residents of Chechen capital complained of traffic irregularities on that day.

It should be reminded that The Day of Chechen Woman was established in 2009 by decree of Head of Chechnya in memory of 46 Chechen girls residents of the settlement of Dadi-Yurt destroyed during the Caucasian war and "for the purpose of strengthening of Chechen woman's role in the life of the community".

This year the Day of Chechen Woman was celebrated in all the districts of the republic. Folk festivals and festive concerts with the participation of the stars of local stage passed off in the towns and villages. Men wearing folk costumes gave flowers and presents to women in the streets.

On the eve of the holiday a conference "The Moslem woman and the family in XXI century" with the participation of representatives of the clergy of Chechnya, Chechen Parliament and different ministries and institutions was held in the building of republican Ministry of Youth Affairs.

On that day mobile communication users received SMS messages as follows: "Head of CR R.A. Kadyrov: "I congratulate the fair sex of Chechen Republic on the Day of Chechen Woman! You deserve respect, deference and admiration! You are the core of the nation! Do not forget to congratulate your mothers, sisters, wives and daughters!".

On September, 16, the authorities of the republic declared that public transport would be free.

On the same evening on the occasion of celebration of the Day of Chechen Woman a grand meeting was held in the building of theatrical and concert hall. All the participants of the action were wearing folk costumes: men had papakhas and Circassian daggers in their belts and women were wearing traditional Chechen attire. Since morning of September, 16, the military and police took the quarters adjoining the building of theatrical and concert hall under special guard, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

After the meeting a concert program with the participation of folk dance groups and stars of Chechen stage was held.

"To be frank, I had quite a good time. I like actions where one can feel Chechen spirit and culture", resident of Chechnya under the nick-name of ibrashk who was present at the action writes in his online diary on LiveJournal.

He reports that during the grand meeting ten women, including mother of Jamal Otarsultanov, participant of the Olympic Games in London, were awarded "Nenan si" ("Mother's Glory") medals and five more residents of Grozny received keys to flats.

"I got a bonus at work on the Day of Chechen Woman", resident of Chechnya under the nick-name "Ta samaya Belova" ("That very Belova") wrote on her LiveJournal.

However, some residents of Grozny expressed discontent about the fact that on the holiday the number of mini-buses and taxis reduced greatly in the streets of the town. They think it happened because on September, 16, the authorities of the republic declared that public transport would be free.

It should be mentioned that some residents of the republic are somewhat sceptical about the Day of Chechen Woman. Earlier, a woman working in one of the non-governmental organizations declared that is was a "hypocrisy to celebrate the Day of Chechen Woman while the same women are shot at with paint bullets or publicly humiliated under the pretext that they do not wear headscarfs or put on "not the right attire".
