The Appellate Court of Azerbaijan refused to start criminal proceedings in connection with beating up a journalist

The Appellate Court in Baku passed a judgment of groundlessness of a lawsuit of Etimad Budagov, press photographer of "Turan" media agency, in connection with beating him up by an official of Mayor's office.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported that in April Budagov stated that he was beaten up by an official of Mayor's office of Baku while he was taking photos in Shamsi Badalbeili street. According to him, his camera of 1200 manat value was taken away and destroyed.

Budagov appealed to Police department No 21 of Nasimi district of Baku asking to initiate a criminal case. However, police investigator Shain Farhadov declared that there were no components of crime in these actions against Budagov and dismissed his claim.

In connection with this refusal the press photographer submitted a lawsuit to Nasimi court. On September, 3, the court brought a standing judgment concerning the investigator's refusal to start criminal proceedings. Budagov appealed against the verdict of Nasimi court. His appeal was considered on September, 14, and the verdict was confirmed, Contact online news reports.

According to the journalist, he is going to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights, "Zerkalo" newspaper reports.
