An art project “Town N” is accomplished in the streets of Nalchik
Bright pictures painted on the walls of the houses, fences and other paces by a group of young artists participating in street-art project “Town N” appeared in the old part of Nalchik, Kabardinskaya street.
The idea of the project belongs to Kerim Akkizov, Chairman of young artists’ section of the “Unit of Artists of Kabardino-Balkaria”, and Aslan Abidov, leader of “Dakhe” non-governmental organization, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent reports.
“The main goal of the project is to awaken love for our Fatherland. We must not only do the cleaning in our flats but come out into the streets, too”, artist Kerim Akkizov said.
The participants of the project painted cordially opened palms on billboards for posters that had long stood empty and a red carpet strip in the direction of the cinema house. “We hope very much that the cinema will soon be restored and open its doors. It went through the Great Patriotic War and it would be a pity to lose it in the peaceful time”, Kerim Akkizov said.
The townsmen’s opinions were divided. The majority supported the idea. They like the paintings. People come to the artists and ask them to paint something on their houses, too. A small part of conservative citizens consider that the paintings upset the charisma of the historic part of the town.
