Journalist Idrak Abbasov reports undergoing pressure

Journalist Idrak Abbasov, employee of the Institute of Freedom and Safety of Reporters (IFSR) and “Aina-Zerkalo” newspaper, reported encroachment upon his property. He estimated it as one more action of unceasing pressure on him in connection with his professional journalist’s activities.

At night of August, 29, unidentified people tried to get into his car. It was already the third case of invasion of his car during the past week, Abbasov said to the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

“Last night, at about 02.35-02.40 the alarm went off in my Opel Astra car which I leave in the courtyard of our single-storey house for the night. My wife Egiana Abbasova and I ran out and discovered that the left back door of the car was open”, the journalist said.

The journalist lives in a residential community of Sulu-Tepe, in the suburbs of Baku. He immediately told his relatives and colleagues about the incident and called to the nearest police department. However, according to Abbasov, in Bingadi district police department No 40 he was told that for the reason that the operative group was called to the site of an incident in the neighbouring settlement of Khekmeli the policeman would arrive later.

He is inclined to think that the attempts of penetration into his car are connected with his professional activities.

Abbasov is famous for his journalistic investigations and human rights activities. During recent years he and his relatives repeatedly underwent physical pressure in connection with publications of materials on conflicts between SOCAR state oil company and the residents of Sulu-Tepe.
