In Armenia, police report on shooting after pre-election rally in Gyumri
In the evening of August 27, in Armenia, in the outskirts of the city of Gyumri, after a pre-election rally of Samvel Balasanyan, a candidate for the position of Mayor of the "Prosperous Armenia" Party, an incident with shooting occurred. This was reported by Karen Babakekhyan, Chief of the Shirak Regional Police Department.
On August 28, the opposition newspaper "Armenian Times" reported that on August 27, in the late the evening after the pre-election rally of Samvel Balasanyan, a conflict occurred between the supporters of Samvel Balasanyan and a group of young people, led by Spartak Gukasyan, a son of Vardan Gukasyan, current Mayor; as a results of the conflict, shots were heard, and then the participants of the events fled away.
Karen Babakekhyan, Chief of the Shirak Regional Police Department, has confirmed the information.
According to the Shirak Regional Police Department, there are no casualties or victims as a result of the incident in one of the outskirts of the city of Gyumri.
