Red Cross builds water supply facilities in South Ossetia

The mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in South Ossetia constructs water pipe lines in the villages of the republic, both those which were affected in the event of 2008 and those which were deprived of the centralized water supply during last 20 years.

Marina Tedety, a staff member of the ICRC in South Ossetia, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the pipe lines are being constructed to the village of Satikar and Mugut of the Tskhinvali District. She has emphasized that is not the first time, when the Red Cross render such assistance. Since 2008, the mission of the ICRC participated in projects of water supply to villages of Eltura, Bars, Vashlovan, Tsorbis, and Kornis.

In the village of Mugut, the length of water supply pipe lines will reach 7 km. According to Gela Gabaraev, a resident of the village of Mugut, they never had water supply to their village.

"There are natural spring sources in the village, like in the other villages of our homeland. All of us carry water in buckets, cans, bottles how we can. We send our children to bring water, or, in the evening, I myself bring water to our house with the help of a wheelbarrow. Some villagers have their own wells dug in the yards. The villagers collect water as they can. We do not have and we never had any distribution networks. At present, water supply pipe lines are being constructed to our village by, it seems, the Red Cross. We thank them for that. If the village has distribution networks and own tanks, it means that every house will have water leaking from tap. And we never had that," Gela expresses his joy.
