Athlete from Adygea went to London to take part in Paralympic Games
Valery Ponomarenko, a resident of Adygea and a champion of the Beijing Paralympic Games 2008 in shooting, is a member of the Russian delegation to London to the 14th Paralympic Games.
"I'm going to London with only one aim – to perform with dignity; it's not the same as to win," said Ponomarenko. If I manage to do my hundred percent, then I can honestly tell myself that I've done everything possible. And if that's not enough, it's not my fault – just someone was still better."
According to his story, any athlete trains to ever perform at the Olympics. "Not everyone can reach this career peak. Those who do are already winners, since they've won this right at other competitions. And I'm going to London not for my achievements four years ago, but because I performed with dignity at interim competitions, in particular, at the tournaments, where I won the license points necessary for taking part in London Paralympics," Valery Ponomarenko told reporters on August 21, on the eve of his departure, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
In total, the Russian delegation includes 270 persons: 182 athletes and the accompanying coaches. The Paralympic Games in London will take place from August 29 till September 9.
