Pyatigorsk: family of suspect of killing a 9-year-old girl put under guard
In fear of lynch law execution by local residents, Vladimir Ambartsumov, a resident of Pyatigorsk, who is suspected of raping and murdering a 9-year-old Anna Prokopenko, and his family are guarded by law enforcers.
On July 23, Anna Prokopenko, who lived in Pyatigorsk, went out to play and never returned. On July 25, the body of the girl with signs of strangulation and rape was found on Mount Mashuk. Vladimir Ambartsumov, 40, a many times convicted for grave crimes local resident, was detained as a suspect. The DNA assay confirmed his involvement in the crime. The suspect pled guilty. On August 1, Vladimir Ambartsumov was arrested.
"Because of threats addressed to the suspect and his family, measures have been taken to ensure Ambartsumov's safety: we have to bring him to trial," Yuri Lyashenko, the head of the division for especially important cases of the Investigatory Department for the Territory of the ICRF, said at today's press conference.
He noted that Ambartsumov's family is also under guard; however, this is not state protection, as they did not apply for official protection, the "Interfax" reports.
On August 17, information appeared about an attempt to put the house, where Vladimir Ambartsumov lived, on fire.
