Activists of "Georgian Dream" hold rally at house of Mikhail Saakashvili in Kvareli

About 40 activists of the youth wing of the "Georgian Dream" held a protest action at the house of President Mikhail Saakashvili in the town of Kvareli. They demanded to clarify the circumstances of spending the funds, allocated to help victims of the flooding in Kakheti.

At night on July 19, heavy rain with hail caused extensive damage to the population of eastern Georgia. In the villages, first floors of houses were flooded; crops and poultry were destroyed. Telavi and Gurdjaani Districts of Kakheti suffered serious damage. Once the extent of the damage became known, billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili, the leader of the "Georgian Dream", paid a part of the fine, imposed on him by the court in the amount of 74.3 million laris (45.6 million US dollars) and suggested to use the money for elimination of the consequences of the disaster.

The participants of the action, held on August 16, stated that they were looking for 80 million laris, which Bidzina Ivanishvili transferred to the state budget for the authorities to help farmers affected by the disaster in Kakheti.

"Unfortunately, Mikhail Saakashvili allocated the money not for the needs of the victims, but for increasing the number of coordinators of the ruling party, and by that fact he once again demonstrated his attitude towards the Georgian people," the "Georgia Online" quotes Tsotne Zurabiani, Chairman of the youth wing of the coalition.

The participants of the action tried to get into the yard of the house of the state leader; however, the government security guards stopped the acts of the young people. According to the available information, the action was held without any detentions or incidents, the "Ekho Kavkaza" (Echo of the Caucasus) reports.
