On August 6-12, 41 persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus
Last week, from August 6 to August 12, 2012, at least 41 persons suffered in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of them, 24 persons perished and 17 more were wounded. These are the results of calculations of the "Caucasian Knot" based on own materials of the edition and information from other open sources.
The death toll includes 14 law enforcers and other power agents: 10 in Dagestan, 4 in Chechnya. 13 persons were wounded: 9 in Chechnya, 4 in Dagestan. 10 militants and suspected members of illegal armed formations (IAFs) were liquidated: 6 in Dagestan, 2 in Kabardino-Balkaria, and 1 in Chechnya. 2 suspected members of IAFs were wounded, both of them in Chechnya. Besides, 2 civilians were wounded: 1 in Dagestan, and 1 in Chechnya.
On August 6, at 12:40 a.m., near the entrance to the store "Voentorg" in the October District of Grozny, two suicide bombing were committed. The total capacity of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) that were used by suicide bombers in the double terror act was eight kilos in TNT equivalent. Four power agents were killed: directly in the place of the explosion, three military men were killed two officers and a contract soldier of the 46th brigade of the internal troops of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). Later, one more soldier died from his wound in hospital. Two soldiers of internal troops, a Chechen police officer, and a local resident got wounds of varying severity. Investigators found components of a "shakhid belt" in the place of the terror act." The suicide bombers were identified as Salman Gekhaev, a 25-year-old resident of Gudermes, and Ali Demilkhanov, a 29-year-old resident of the village of Geldagan of the Kurchaloi District.
