Resident of Kabardino-Balkaria claims disappearance of his son

On August 13, Kazbek Zankishiev, a resident of the village of Verkhnyaya Zhamtala of the Cherek District of Kabardino-Balkaria, disappeared under unknown circumstances. This was claimed by his father Iskhaq Zankishiev. The relatives of the disappeared man whose fate is still unknown have filed a complaint to the police and appealed to human rights defenders for help.

According to Iskhaq Zankishiev, who on August 14 filed a complaint to the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", Kazbek and his friends Aslan Musukov went by a truck to the village of Shalushka, located in the outskirts of Nalchik, to buy a circular saw.

"On their way back, between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., Aslan, who drove the vehicle, left Kazbek in Nalchik in 1.5 hours of driving to the city bus station. Aslan had something to do in the city, and it was assumed that Kazbek would go home by bus. In 30 minutes, Aslan called Kazbek to know whether he got to the bus station; however, his mobile phone was switched off," reports the statement of the HRC "Memorial".

At 7:00 p.m., Aslan brought the circular saw to the Zankishiev's house; however, it turned out that Kazbek had not returned till that time. Relatives began to call him; however, his mobile phone was still off.

The relatives of Kazbek Zankishiev filed the complaint about his disappearance to the UVD (Interior Department) of the city of Nalchik. Till present, the relatives know nothing about the whereabouts of Kazbek Zankishiev. They fear that he has been detained by law enforcement agents and ask to help find him.
